So.. Some years back John Raptis and I played a little prank. At the time, to put this in context, the boards were full of threads of people arguing back and forth about the cloning of game ideas and whether it was ethical or even legal. Some of the debates got pretty heated. It was also a time where any and every match 3 game seemed to sell and there seemed to be no end to the casual matching bubble. In order to have a little fun and fan the flames we created a fake product (along with a domain name at the time) called the kasual kit.. which we posted an announcement to anonymously. We put the pages back up for fun here... http://www.raptisoft.com/kasualkit/faq.htm A few people were sure it was a joke and others weren't so clear. Here's a link to the original thread and the ensuing hubbub... http://forums.indiegamer.com/showthread.php?t=6415 We were careful, posting through proxy servers and the like but we were eventually caught (see the end of the thread) because we left a meta tag or some identifier accidentally in the HTML. Anyway.. was fun at the time and people seemed to enjoy it so I posted this new thread for fun.
Heh, this is pretty cool. I would've actually fallen for it as something like that is probably doable tbh.
I remember this. It's been four years already and Kasual Kit still isn't done? When are you going to release this? I want my Kasual Kit! (Yep that was an awesome prank)
That's funny- I remember this, but didn't look into it. I had no idea it was a prank. Brilliantly done, I must say. Are you sure you didn't release it though? I'm sure the 50 thousand iPhone match 3 devs are getting help from somewhere
Wow... doesn't seem like that long ago... There are a bazillion match 3's out at this point... think about how many there would be if the Kasual Kit was for real
It didn't do HOGs, even though it was well after Huntsville came out -- big lack of foresight, taking potshots instead of trying to read the market Best regards, Emmanuel
If you read the FAQ it specifically says... Q: What if the game I want to make isn't included? A: Our team is always researching the top game sites to include the very latest and best game ideas. Game types will be added in a timely manner based on their level of popularity and sales.
Good Times. Since Raptis has so much free time I think it's time someone asked him to do some cleanup around here!
Time flies so fast... I remember cloning was something shocking those days, now it's the only business strategy in downloadable casual games. I am so glad I forsaw this and switched boat in advance.
