Hello, I'm a newbie/wannabe game developer who has some experience in writing code for other kinds of projects but not that familiar with doing it for games. From previous coding experiences, I have a feeling it is best to start by working mostly with prewritten code and templates instead of trying to do too much from scratch as any kind of project or classroom lab doing such tends to so time consuming it almost defeat any benefits from doing it.

One of the games I recently played on my kindle called "Pixel Heroes: Byte & Magic" uses a simple 2D rogue like RPG dungeon crawler, which allows from a very interesting game despite it looking like it came from the 80's.

I'm wondering if anyone here who might know where I can find any place where I might be able to find code which could be used to create a similar engine; even if the engine I create doesn't have much of the same functions to begin with but it is something one could start with to create more.

    Thanks. :D
