Alright so I'm working on an RPG of sorts. I want the game to explorable, but for the sake of performance, what will be more efficient? Having an open world game where you can walk from end to end without going through a gate or loading screen, or breaking up the world into sections where you have to go through a loading screen? Keep in mind, the game world isn't big per-say, there's just a lot in it.

Well in my game the world will consist of levels. It's a lot easier to implement, smaller RAM, disc size and decreased CPU/GPU usage.

you cam make a open world but have decreasing LOD and segregate certain areas in different scenes and change the scene when the need for it comes up
