    [Abstract] ZOOM Cloud Meetings surged in downloads. Fierce competition in advertising for shopping apps.

    Let's first take a look at the downloads of top mobile apps (non-game) worldwide. WhatsApp Messenger owned by Meta received 12.9 million downloads on the App Store in January, continuing to be the most downloaded app. Instagram was the most downloaded app on Google Play with 30.5 million downloads in January, up 6.6% month-on-month.


    ZOOM Cloud Meetings reported a significant growth in downloads in January, totaling over 28.9 million downloads, with 7.2 million downloads and a ranking 7 spots higher on the App Store and with 21.7 million downloads and a ranking 12 spots higher on Google Play.


    Overall, most ranked apps in January 2022 recorded increased downloads as compared with the last month. Top apps were mostly social apps, most of which were owned by Meta and Google.




    Top 10 by Advertising

    Now let's check out the advertising for top apps in January. The news app NewsBreak remained first on the advertising list with over 70,000 deduplicated creatives on iOS and over 800,000 deduplicated creatives on Android. However, compared to December 2021, the app had decreased deduplicated creatives on both iOS and Android.

    Shopping apps reported a great increase in advertising efforts on iOS with 5 apps on the list. They are Lattelier, VIVAIA, Chic Me, Speedd ®, and HAWALILI. Among them, VIVAIA and HAWALILI recorded the greatest growth. Both apps reported an over 10 times increase in deduplicated creatives compared to last month.

    Top apps by advertising on Android were mostly news apps and tools apps. But the social app Clatter ranking 8th on the list reported the greatest increase. The app started advertising on 27 December 2021 and it had totaled over 45,000 deduplicated creatives as of February 1, 2022. The app focused its advertising in South Asia, Middle East, and Southeast Asia, with most ad creatives in India, accounting for 12% of its total creatives.
