My top 3 from the C=64 era: Jumpman / Jumpman Jr.) Archon Mail Order Monsters And don't forget about music - make sure your music has a good retro feel. Nitrome's games are a good example - particularly the ones with catchy songs.
Turrican Gianna Sisters Monkey Island Pinball Fantasies Lemmings Pirates Speedball Lotus Esprit Turbo Challange Last Resort
Juggernaut Strike Force Cobra Trap Door D/Generation Moonstone Beach Head/Beach Head 2 Hypersports Klax Impossible Mission 1/2 Spy vs Spy
Secret of Mana (SNES) Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (SNES) Final Fantasy II (SNES) Castlevania IV (SNES) Mario Bros. (most of them on NES and SNES) Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (SMS) Out Run (SMS) Space Harrier (SMS) King's Quest and many other Sierra quest games. Many other ones too…… I played so much, I can only name a few. I just can't remember all the good games I played.
Lords of Midnight Fairlight Battlezone (original arcade machine) UFO: Enemy Unknown Elite Dungeon Master Mostly games of the ZX speccy and Atari ST variety for me..... ...oooh... and the original PilotWings on SNES
Can someone move this thread to Indie Related Chat? My favorite retro game is Boulder Dash (liked it so much I remade it). Others: Jet Set Willy (and variants, such as Top Hat Willy) Omega Race Moria (I currently play Angband quite regularly) Bard's Tale Wasteland Wizard Racing Destruction Set Sanxion and most of the Infocom games I'm currently half-assedly working on a Vic-20 style mashup of Omega Race and Radar Rat Race.
I loved an awful lot of Amiga games. I'd usually put on the cheats and play them in easy mode. It still feels weird to think of some of these as retro games. I'm paring the list down to my favourites and there's only two games I played on the PC on the list because I'm still having issues considering PC games retro. If it's out on the PC it's new. Loom - This is my all time favourite adventure game. I think was far beyond its time. There's lots of other adventure games I really enjoyed and could quite happily populate the list with them but I think I'll stick with just Loom. Lemmings - the first game and Oh No More Lemmings but not any of the sequels beyond that, since the game got far too complicated and lost its charm. I found it one of the most innovative and enjoyable puzzle games I've played. I especially enjoyed the two player mode on the Amiga where my sister would yell at me for cheating because I'd send my Lemmings back to sabotage hers. I loved Lemmings. She got her revenge on me playing Worms, which isn't on the list since I kept losing. Cannon Fodder - War's never been this much fun! Castles 2 Civilization - just the first game, I thought the sequels overcomplicated things. Heimdal 2 Megolomania Pirates Gold! PowerMonger 2 PushOver Settlers - Again just the first game and the two player mode was one of my favourite aspects. Silly Putty Sim Ant Speedball 2 Syndicate Theme Park - the original, not any of the sequels. UFO Worlds of Legend: Son of the Empire Dungeon Keeper Theme Hospital
Joust Berzerk Pitfall Yars' Revenge Montezuma's Revenge I'm defining retro as crash/pre-crash otherwise it leaves me with too many options...
retro game decision i chose to go with goldeneye64 and i made it multiplayer for 8, i really want to secure some votes but other than that ya'll can have fun, you can go here, read the thread and download the game, please excuse the animation bug which is already reported and waiting for the engine devs to fix it: http://www.opserver.de/ubb7/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=307557#Post307557
One of my all time favorite retro games, and the one I'd most like to see a remake of: The Guardian Legend.
